Meet the Diversability® Leadership Collective

Launched in July 2021 to better curate the experience for disability leadership, we created the Diversability® Leadership Collective for you to call home. It is a space to create, fail, share, thrive, and grow. The Diversability® Leadership Collective is a members-only community that fosters meaningful connections and offers resources and opportunities to help accelerate you and accelerate disability leadership and influence. We hope this space will become your springboard to join us in elevating disability pride.

Will you invest in your growth?

To date (Oct 2023), our members have secured over $35,000 of paid opportunities and been featured in the press, podcasts, and more.

Make a small investment today for a big future.

Your membership directly supports our team of 100% disabled individuals who do the work behind the scenes to organize events, create content, and manage our community. We also pay our speakers, event hosts, contributors, etc., because we know that free emotional labor doesn’t work.

If you are experiencing financial hardship due to disability, medical expenses, etc., and feel you can actively contribute to the community, apply for a sliding-scale membership here.

What Our Members are Saying

"I joined DLC because I experienced extreme accessibility barriers for the first time in the workplace. This challenge propelled me to seek others in the Deaf community and the disability advocacy space to learn what has been done and can be done to normalize access everywhere for everyone. Joining the DLC has connected me to a diverse community of accessibility advocates I can learn with and from. I’m grateful to be able to hear every member’s lived experience, support their causes, and contribute my own story and expertise to a collective purpose."
- Nicki Tsang, Lead Product Manager, Technical

"My world opened up after joining the DLC. The support and opportunities for growth have propelled me to speak up. It has been overwhelming after so many years of feeling alone. But the support is real. The DLC changes lives. It has changed mine. The DLC focus on community makes lasting change possible. The DLC is a restorative space. (Other spaces like disability rights committees only focus on the problems.) I love the disability joy the DLC embodies. That joy is by design."
- Neil Hughes, Paralympic snowboarder and reforestation activist

“The DLC has helped me jump-start my side hustle as a disability advocate... all thanks to the DLC and their staff who have extended internal and external opportunities to DLC membership... Disability has many voices, many experiences, many cultures. DLC membership has helped me amplify my own voice.
- Nico Meyering, Disabled advocate and AmeriCorps alumnus

A Message From Our Founder

Video transcript. Thumbnail description: Tiffany is a Taiwanese American woman leaning against a wall with her arms crossed. She is wearing a wrist splint on her right arm.

I want to see more of us become thought leaders, creators, TEDx speakers, corporate leaders, and more. And I want this to be the space to help you get there.

A win for one of us is a win for all of us.

About Diversability®

Founded in 2009, Diversability® is a social enterprise to elevate disability pride through disability community, visibility, and engaged allyship. We’ve curated over 160 events, grown our communities (on Facebook and the Diversability Leadership Collective) to more than 6,500 members, and expanded our digital network to over 80,000.

We cannot wait to elevate disability pride, together.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is disability?

Disability is any condition of the body and/or mind that may impact an aspect of your daily life. This includes chronic illnesses and mental health conditions. We know that identifying as disabled is an evolving journey and want to give you the space to identify however is most comfortable to you.

Do I have to have a disability to join?

No. While our conversations and our work are disability-centered, anyone is welcome to join, regardless of disability status. Our programming has always been open to non-disabled allies, as research has shown that one of the best ways to tackle disability bias is through real-life, continuous experiences that interrupt stereotypes.

I'm part of the Facebook community. How is this different?

Our Facebook community of more than 6,500 members will continue to be a free, loosely moderated space for peer support and community. The Diversability® Leadership Collective is a more curated offering that will allow you access to a like-minded community, more opportunities to connect through weekly events and platform, and complimentary access to our programming.

Is the DLC worth the investment if I am an introvert?

Yes! In fact, most of the Diversability® team and many of our members are introverts. There is no pressure to show up in a specific way and you do not have to be on camera in order to benefit from the community.

From DLC member Nico: "I am also an introvert who had to find and craft his voice. These folks don't mind if you have your camera off for the Zoom events, or if you'd prefer to interact through text posts."

What if I am not based in the United States?

Our community is global! Recordings of all of our content will be available on-demand whenever you want to access it.

How much does it cost?

Membership to the Diversability® Leadership Collective is currently less than $70/month (get almost FOUR months free on an annual plan) to get access to our curated community and events. Cancel anytime. Thanks to the Frazier Fund, a mutual aid effort led by Nico Meyering, you can try us out for a month FREE with no strings attached. Visit our Facebook community for more information.

The cost of your Diversability® Leadership Collective membership directly supports our team of 100% disabled individuals who do the work behind the scenes to organize events, create content, and manage our community. We also pay our speakers, event hosts, contributors, etc., because we know that free labor doesn't work.

To date (Oct 2023), our members have secured over $35,000 of paid opportunities and been featured in the press, podcasts, and more.

If you are looking for a free community, our Facebook community of more than 6,500 members will continue to be a free, loosely moderated space for peer support and community. Can my employer sponsor my membership?

Yes!

  1. If you are a part of Corporate America, a community like this is considered an education/learning & development stipend they will sponsor, and many of our members have had their employer sponsor their membership. Here's a template letter that you can use.
  2. If you are an Entrepreneur, member dues may be considered deductible business expenses.

Can I gift/sponsor a membership for a disabled person to join this community?

Yes, your sponsorship is tax-deductible! You can sponsor an annual membership by emailing us at [email protected] or making a donation directly through our fiscal sponsor. Your sponsorship will be applied as a scholarship for those interested in joining the DLC but cannot due to financial hardship.

If you want to gift a membership to a specific person, let us know the name and email of the person you are gifting a membership to at [email protected].

Can I provide a special perk/discount code to members of the Diversability® Leadership Collective?

Yes! Please complete our partnerships interest form and someone from our team will be in touch.

Is Mighty Networks accessible?

The Mighty Networks iOS app works well with VoiceOver. Android devices typically have a built-in TTS engine that reads the text that it can find on the screen. They do not currently have web screen readers, and we will be including subtitles or transcript downloads for videos. We will also add image descriptions with photos for any content you publish. Note that we have been in touch with the Mighty Networks team on accessibility, and accessibility via auto transcription and image descriptors as well as built-in screen readers are on their radar. We are also following Mighty Network’s product roadmap for updates.
